The Lodge House - Windlesham, Surrey
Set within a historic lodge house in the semi-rural surroundings of Windlesham, Surrey, this project reimagines a once modest upper floor into a richly layered and deeply personal retreat. Dating back over a century and formerly part of a larger manor estate, the property carries a quiet sense of heritage — something the new interiors carefully honour while introducing a renewed sense of luxury and modern living.

The Brief
The brief centred on the complete transformation of the primary suite, encompassing a dressing room, bedroom and ensuite. Bringing together English and Italian influences, the clients envisioned a space that felt bold, indulgent and characterful, yet equally calming and restorative.

The Dressing Room
The journey begins in the dressing room, where a confident use of colour and pattern immediately sets the tone. Striking tented stripe wallpaper from Farrow & Ball creates a cocooning effect, layered with curated artwork.

The Bedroom
A dramatic archway leads into the bedroom, where the design unfolds into a romantic, country house-inspired scheme. At its centre sits a revitalised four-poster bed, repainted in a rich burnt orange — an unexpected yet harmonious counterpoint to the enveloping blue palette of the room.
Tapestry-style wallpaper panels, reminiscent of historic textiles, introduce depth and richness, while bespoke curtains and carefully considered lighting enhance the room’s layered atmosphere. Restored original floorboards ground the space in its history, reinforcing a sense of continuity throughout.

"Designed as a retreat-like sequence of spaces, the suite balances bold colour, layered texture and moments of quiet contrast"

The Ensuite
In deliberate contrast, the ensuite offers a strikingly contemporary experience. Accessed through a hidden jib door concealed within the bedroom’s wallpaper panels, the reveal feels theatrical — an unexpected moment of surprise and delight.
Completely reconfigured, the layout now allows direct access from the bedroom, evoking the atmosphere of a boutique hotel suite. Enveloped in microcement, the room feels seamless and sculptural, while the softly tactile, stone-like finish enhances its calm, immersive quality.

A freestanding copper bath, aged copper brassware and a bespoke double vanity introduce moments of quiet luxury and material richness, offset against the cool, monolithic quality of the microcement. Subtle black accents sharpen the overall aesthetic, while a walk-in “shower cave” further elevates the retreat-like atmosphere.

The Outcome
The result is a distinctive and deeply personal interior that artfully balances tradition with modernity. Rich in texture, colour and narrative, the suite offers both everyday comfort and a sense of escapism — transforming this home into a place of quiet luxury and retreat.
